About Sensei Alan Friedman

Sensei Alan, the senior student of Chadwick Minge Sensei, has been a student of the martial arts since the age of 13 when he was first introduced to the art of Okinawan GoJu by his father. At the age of 17 he received his first black belt, but this was just the beginning of a life long pursuit. During his "journey" he has trained with top instructors in various arts including: Aikido, Aikijutsu, Boxing, Escrima, Iai, Jujutsu, and Tai Chi, both here in the States and in the Orient.

It was in the late 1980's that he was introduced to Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura and the art of Ninpo Taijutsu. While attending the seminar he also met Minge Sensei, a direct student of Tanemura Sensei and his principal representative in the United States. Shortly there after Sensei Alan became a student of Minge Sensei and still trains with him to this day, working toward his Certification as Master Instructor (Fifth Level). In 1993 Alan traveled to Japan along with Minge Sensei and received the rank of Shodan directly from the Grandmaster. After returning to the United States Sensei Alan received his First Level Instructor’s License from Minge Sensei.

In 2003 he received his 4th level instructor certification (There are only five levels of Instructor) as well as the title of "Sensei". In 2006 Alan opened the Kokono'Ha dojo, the School of 9 feathers, which was originally not open to the public. He has been asked by Sensei Minge to open his Dojo to the public and now he teaches all interested students.

Hello Sensei,

The website looks great!

Thank you for having me as a student.

Training with you and the rest of the students helps keep me grounded and sane!
